The DJI Zenmuse L3 is a new generation professional airborne LiDAR system designed for precise mapping and surveying in the most demanding conditions. Integrating a 1535 nm laser rangefinder with a detection range of up to 950 m, dual 100 MP RGB cameras, a precise POS positioning system, and a 3-axis gimbal, the device sets a new standard in its class. It provides maximum measurement accuracy, excellent ground penetration, full integration with the DJI Enterprise ecosystem, and performance that allows coverage of up to 100 km² per day. Additionally, the camera comes with one year of DJI Care support. All of this makes the Zenmuse L3 ideal for demanding tasks in sectors such as forestry, energy, mining, and rescue operations.

Long Range and Wide Coverage

At the core of the Zenmuse L3 is a LiDAR rangefinder with a wavelength of 1535 nm, offering a detection range of up to 950 m with an object reflectivity of 10%. Adjustable pulse frequency of up to 100 kHz allows precise adjustment of power to a specific mission scenario, providing the optimal balance between range, point cloud density, and operational efficiency. At typical flight altitudes of 300–500 m, the system significantly increases the area covered in a single flight, reducing the time required to collect terrain data.

High Beam Precision and Penetration

The Zenmuse L3 uses a beam with extremely low divergence of only 0.25 mrad (1/e²). This means the laser spot at the same distance can be up to five times smaller than in the previous model. In practice, this enables detection of small objects such as power lines or tree branches while maintaining a high density of ground points. The higher energy concentration of each pulse translates into better vegetation penetration and more accurate terrain structure representation. Moreover, the Zenmuse L3 generates up to 2 million laser pulses per second and supports up to 16 returns, enabling the creation of exceptionally detailed point clouds and precise spatial reconstruction in both open areas and complex environments.

Scanning Modes for Different Missions

The Zenmuse L3 offers three scanning modes, allowing you to adjust the system’s operation to the requirements of each mission. Linear mode ensures evenly distributed points and is ideal for topographic mapping. Star-Shaped mode combines multiple scanning angles with increased penetration, making it suitable for forested or urban environments. Non-Repetitive mode provides wider coverage and diverse viewing angles, which is particularly useful for inspections of power transmission lines and technical infrastructure.

Dual 100 MP RGB Camera System

Two RGB cameras with 4/3 CMOS sensors and a resolution of 100 MP, equipped with a mechanical shutter, ensure outstanding image quality and mapping accuracy. Binning technology generates an effective 25 MP resolution with larger pixels, delivering improved color reproduction and more detail even in low light conditions. Another advantage is the wide 107° field of view, allowing a much larger area to be captured. Even with a side overlap of only 20%, you can collect data for both digital orthophoto maps (DOM) and digital elevation models (DEM) during a single flight, reducing mission time and improving operational efficiency.

Precise POS System and Data Accuracy

The built-in proprietary POS system achieves a heading accuracy of 0.02° and a pitch/roll accuracy of 0.01° (post-processed, 1σ). The LiDAR itself features a distance measurement repeatability of 5 mm at 150 m with microsecond-level time synchronization. Each Zenmuse L3 unit undergoes rigorous factory calibration to ensure consistent and reliable measurement results in professional applications. Vertical accuracy reaches up to 3 cm at 120 m flight altitude, 5 cm at 300 m, and 10 cm at 500 m. Additionally, the dual 100 MP RGB cameras enable a GSD of approximately 3 cm at a flight altitude of 300 m. Real-time position synchronization allows high-quality images to be captured without the need for ground control points (GCP), reducing the time required to complete missions.

High Efficiency and Strong Penetration Capability

Thanks to the smaller laser spot and higher pulse energy, the Zenmuse L3 offers excellent penetration capability. During terrain mapping, for example, the system captures more ground points, improving both accuracy and data integrity. When paired with the DJI Matrice 400 drone, the camera can cover up to 10 km² in a single flight and up to 100 km² per day. Simultaneous LiDAR and RGB data capture allows a single mission to generate point clouds, 3D models, DEM, and DOM datasets.

Complete DJI Enterprise Ecosystem

The Zenmuse L3 is part of the fully integrated DJI Enterprise ecosystem, providing a complete workflow from mission planning to data analysis and reporting. DJI Pilot 2 offers automatic parameter recommendations and visualization of point cloud density distribution before takeoff. During flight, real-time 2D/3D preview and SLAM reconstruction allow immediate verification of progress and accuracy. The system also supports split-screen information display and the Power Line Follow function for power line inspections. Data can be automatically uploaded to DJI FlightHub 2, where it can be analyzed, annotated, and measured directly in a web interface.

Advanced Data Processing and Analysis

The Zenmuse L3 works with the DJI Terra platform, which supports PPK processing for LiDAR and RGB data, providing centimeter-level positioning accuracy without RTK. The use of Gaussian Splatting technology allows greater realism and detail in 3D reconstructions, while integrated data processing improves the generation of point clouds, 2D maps, and 3D models. DJI Modify software further simplifies classification and data analysis.

Security and Reliability

The Zenmuse L3 supports CFexpress memory card encryption, protecting data from unauthorized access. When used with the DJI Matrice 400 drone, the system also benefits from AES-256 encrypted video transmission and a one-click log clearing function, meeting the highest security standards required in industrial and public applications.
